2019 Academy Awards Oscars Recap: An Exercise in Virtue Signaling!

The 2019 Academy Awards generally known as the Oscars was not much more than an exercise in leftist virtue signaling. From the beginning, even before many started to watch the program, gay actor Billy Porter gained widespread praise for his choice of attire – a tuxedo/gown mashup.

There was no host for the show since Kevin Hart pulled out at the last minute due to refusing to apologize repeatedly for his past “anti-gay” comments on Twitter. That may have been a great choice for his career because he would have had to preside of a night of endless Trump-bashing, pro-illegal, pro-LGBT, anti-conservative, anti-wall, and pro-everything-not-conservative. It was a total mess.

At this point, the awards themselves are generally meaningless. After the #OscarsSoWhite kerfuffle, it appears as if the awards are given based upon the subject matter and/or identity of recipient, rather than the movie itself actually being good or not.

Spike Lee gave an anti-Trump speech and encouraged people to go out and “Do The Right Thing” (phrased to reference to an old movie of his.) Trump hit back on Twitter and some are confused by that action. The reality is that the Academy Awards are seen by around 30 to 40 million people every year which is upwards of 30 percent of the number of people who voted in the US Presidential election of 2016.

A lot of eyes and big time marketing budgets watching a cultural event is the perfect opportunity to get a political message out to the general public, which is why the event was so full of anti-conservative rhetoric all night.
